We assume that Chick-Fil-A management was hoping to buy some goodwill from the LGBT community with the money that will no longer go to organizations like the Salvation Army. But if they were so short-sighted as to believe that the left forgives that easily, they deserve whatever they have coming. Anyone who knows the left knows that you cannot – EVER – capitulate yourself into their good graces. They see surrender as weakness. Any confrontation with them illustrates the old maxim: You give them an inch, they take a mile. And now it appears that Chick-Fil-A will have to learn that ancient lesson for themselves.
Chick-fil-A received a cold welcome to Windsor on Monday, as about 20 people convened outside city hall to protest the Georgia-based restaurant chain’s connection to anti-LGBTQ causes.
They carried signs saying “Chick-fil-A hates LGBTQ+ people,” and “Chick-fil-A is a homophobe.”
New openings in recent years have been met with similar protests, but this group got out in front of the issue by attending a meeting of city council where site plan approval of the Chick-fil-A on the Devonshire Mall property was on the agenda as information only.
Chick-fil-A is planning a location on Division Road north of the Keg restaurant.
Protest organizer Cole Fortier said while the council agenda didn’t have a lot of information on the Chick-fil-A opening, Monday’s meeting was a convenient time to let councillors know that people are opposed.
“If and when they do open, we’re going to be there protesting,” he vowed. “Their grand opening, job fairs, whatever they have, we’re going to be there.”
But…but didn’t these protesters hear the news? Don’t they realize that, thanks to the angry, intolerant actions of LGBT warriors around the world, Chick-Fil-A will no longer be giving charity to organizations that (gasp) have a traditional view of marriage? Why wouldn’t they greet this shift in direction with major celebrations?
“Don’t bring hatred into the country,” protester Hedy Halpern said. “They are fear mongering, I think that they are pushing an agenda that is hateful and is something that should not be welcomed in Canada. I really don’t want to see them in this country.”
Chick-fil-A, of course, has never “pushed an agenda,” other than one that encourages people to eat more chicken. But for these rainbow rejects, anyone who isn’t fully on board with gay marriage, drag queen story hour, and women with beards dominating the wrestling mat…is obviously just a disgusting bigot.
Chick-fil-A really should have known better, but we suppose they’ll have to learn the hard way.
