Michigan State Police have arraigned and charged Sherikia Hawkins with multiple counts of public records forgery, misconduct, using a computer to commit a crime, and falsifying records or returns. Hawkins, a city clerk in Southfield, Michigan, was arraigned Monday after authorities found she had illegally altered 193 ballots during the 2018 midterm elections. The registered Democrat allegedly changed files on the nearly 200 files to assess that the voters had failed to either supply a valid signature or return date on their ballots. When the clerk’s office later found those records in the trash, they discovered that all of the files included the aspects Hawkins had declared missing.
National Review reports:
In a statement announcing the charges, Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel and secretary of state Jocelyn Benson, both of whom are Democrats, stressed that Hawkins’s behavior was anomalous and did not affect any election outcomes.
“Voting is fundamental to the very essence of our democracy,” Nessel said during a Monday news conference. “It is incumbent upon state governments to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that every voter’s right to cast a ballot is protected.”
Hawkins, who makes $101,500 per year, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of her trial.
The Michigan Democratic party honored Hawkins this year with the prestigious Dingell/Levin award at its annual Legacy Dinner in Detroit, and she was included in the Michigan Chronicle‘s “40 under 40” list in 2017.
Wow, they gave her an award in 2017, eh? Imagine the kind of honors they would have bestowed upon her if they knew what she was really up to in the city clerk’s office! Of course, now that she’s been busted redhanded, once again giving lie to the Democratic Party’s mantra of “There Is No Such Thing As Election Fraud,” she’ll undoubtedly be ex-communicated from the group. If you’re gonna be a left-wing criminal, you gotta be slick about it.
Conservative advocacy group Michigan Rising Action doesn’t believe that Hawkins began her career in election fraud in 2018.
“The charges against Ms. Hawkins are extremely troubling and must be fully investigated. The integrity of our elections is essential to the protection of our constitutional rights and individual liberty. Michigan Rising Action is calling for a full audit of every election that Ms. Hawkins oversaw in her capacity as an elections official,” the group told National Review.
The New York Times, the Washington Post, and other mainstream liberal outlets that run a front-page feature every time a Republican governor closes a polling station have shown literally no interest in this story. We know, we know: You can’t contain your shock.
