In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that there are “enormous amounts of evidence” that show the Trump campaign colluded with Russian during the 2016 presidential election. Warner expressed that opinion even though the chairman of the committee, Sen. Richard Burr, has concluded that there is nothing of the kind.
In making this case, Warner called on much of the publicly known-and-largely-discredited nonsense that continues to justify this longrunning witch hunt.
“The ongoing negotiations about Trump Tower well into the campaign,” he said. “I believe the fact that Mr. Trump knew about the dump of the Wikileaks material, the fact that clearly the meeting at Trump Tower which was not described appropriately, in terms of offering dirt. To me, that’s all evidence. There’s no one that could factually say there’s not plenty of evidence of collaboration or communications between Trump Organization and Russians.”
Well…true. Communications, that is. It would be pretty difficult to negotiate over a Trump property in Moscow without communicating with a few Russians, we’d imagine. Maybe Warner knows differently. As for WikiLeaks, we assume that Warner is talking about Michael Cohen’s testimony from Wednesday, where he asserted that he was in the room when Roger Stone called Trump and told him to expect a dump of emails from Assange soon. To which we say, so what? Did Stone tell Trump that these emails came from a Russian hack job on the DNC? What does this have to do with “collusion?”
Furthermore, if Warner and the Democrats have been investigating this thing up one side and down the other for the last two years, why is one of his main pieces of evidence coming from a convicted liar who just revealed this information a few days ago? How flimsy IS this case, anyway?
The answer, as far as we can tell, is extremely flimsy.
To put it another way, just flimsy enough to justify keeping these investigations open for another two years, or however long it takes for Democrats to get an un-beatable edge on Trump in the 2020 election. Because that’s all this is about. That’s all it has ever been about. They’ve known from Day One that they didn’t have anything on Trump. This has been one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American people, and it is a direct result of the Establishment losing power to same. They are willing to go to any lengths, to tell any lies, to exaggerate any story they can to wrest that power back.
If they really thought they had a chance of winning in 2020, they would do the wise thing and let the Russia investigation die a natural death. But now, with a bunch of outright lunatics at the top of the Democrat playlist, they are not so certain at all about their chances. And so they’re going back to the well one more time. One more round, this time with feeling. Our only consolation is that the public is starting to see this sham for what it is.
