For those of you who missed it, there was an all-time classic Twitter exchange on February 20. One for the ages.
After some discussion at the Las Vegas debate about how loathsome Bernie Sanders’ online hordes are in their behavior, DNC Vice Chairman Keith Ellison decided to weigh in on what he’d seen from the Bernie Bros.
“I have never seen @BernieSanders supporters being unusually mean or rude,” Ellison tweeted. “Can someone send me an example of a ‘Bernie Bro’ being bad? Also, are we holding all candidates responsible for a the behavior of their supporters? Waiting to hear.”
Which inspired this amazing comeback from Republican Whip Steve Scalise: “I can think of an example.”
Scalise, of course, was nearly killed in 2017 by a deranged Bernie supporter named James Hodgkinson, a name that has been all-but-memory-holed by the left-wing media.
In an interview with Fox & Friends this weekend, Scalise said, “There’s no place in politics for violence — to threaten or carry out violence — and that’s where everybody has to take a stand. Whether it’s your supporters or somebody else’s. Sometimes it’s easy to call out the other side, but you’ve got to call out your own side, too, and I think that’s something where they could definitely pick up the pace.”
Well, the problem isn’t just that they aren’t “calling out” their own crazy supporters, they are actively trying to hide these incidents from the public. This wouldn’t be possible without an adoring and obedient media, but they conveniently have just that.
In an op-ed for New Hampshire’s Union-Leader newspaper this week, Donald Trump Jr. said it was time for the media to stop protecting violent leftists.
“IT’S OPEN season on patriotic Trump supporters, but you’d never know it from the media’s deafening silence on a rash of recent political attacks,” the president’s son wrote.
After running down several recent examples of liberal violence, Don Jr. asked: “Where is the outrage? Where is the wall-to-wall mainstream media coverage of these unprovoked attacks? The lack of interest in the New Hampshire and Jacksonville incidents demonstrates a pattern of media complacency if not outright dismissal.
“By ignoring the victimization of patriotic Americans exercising their rights to free speech and supporting President Trump, the mainstream media encourages new acts of political violence in the future. We can and should do better,” he continued.
But then, what else can be expected? We’re talking about a media that has – for four solid years – beaten a relentless drum that says Trump is a racist, Trump is a liar, Trump is a traitor, Trump is trying to turn himself into a dictator, etc. That kind of neverending propaganda can ONLY result in eventual violence. The reason they don’t cover these incidents is because they don’t want to take culpability for them.
