In interviews with KITH Radio and Fox News this week, former Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her radical remarks on immigration at Bernie Sanders rallies over the past week. Homan took exception not only to AOC’s contention that ICE and Customs and Border Protection should be dismantled by the next president but to her decision to encourage attendees to actively hide illegal aliens from federal authorities.
“Organizing is about tipping people off if you start to see that ICE and CBP are in communities, to try to keep people safe,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I’m here because Senator Sanders has actually committed to breaking up ICE and CBP.”
In a radio interview, Homan responded to AOC’s rhetoric, saying: “It’s ridiculous. It’s an extremely stupid statement made by somebody I’ve never considered real smart anyways.”
He continued: “Here’s an elected lawmaker, she’s a congresswoman standing on a stage telling people how to obstruct ICE, tipping off people ICE is looking and she needs to realize that 9-out-of-10 of everybody ICE arrested last year was a convicted criminal or pending criminal charges. Last year, 137,000 criminals, 2,000 were murderers, 12,000 sex offenses, 45,000 assaults, 62,000 drug offenses, 10,000 weapons offenses, and she wants the community to tip these people if ICE is in their neighborhood operating.”
Homan said that AOC’s rhetoric could put ICE officers in real jeopardy.
“ICE’s job is already extremely dangerous, now she’s making it more dangerous,” he said. “She’s one of these Democrats who keeps saying, ‘nobody’s above the law, the president is above the law, we need to impeach the president cause he’s not about the law,’ but apparently illegal aliens are above the law because ICE isn’t allowed to arrest them, it’s ridiculous statement. It’s a dangerous statement.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s lack of intelligence is not in dispute, but unfortunately, her take on illegal immigration is growing in popularity among the extreme left. These are the same people that think cops are the descendants of the old South slave patrols, that concepts like math and science have racist foundations, and that we can heal the world if we just dismantle capitalism and replace it with Good Time Everyone Lives Off the Government Happy Fun Theory. These are ludicrous arguments that have no backing in (legitimate) history, science, or common sense.
And yet, because they “feel good” to guilty college students, former bartenders, and losers looking to blame someone else for their unsuccessful lives, these theories persist. It would be nice to think that something as simple as “facts” could keep the dam from breaking, but you have to wonder…
