Consistently unable to just GO AWAY, Hillary Clinton weighed in on President Trump’s impeachment acquittal on Wednesday, accusing Republicans of violating their oaths of office in exonerating the president of the phony charges against him.
“As the president’s impeachment trial began, Republican senators pledged an oath to defend the Constitution,” Clinton tweeted. “Today, 52 of them voted to betray that oath—and all of us. We’re entering dangerous territory for our democracy. It’ll take all of us working together to restore it”
In a follow-up tweet, Clinton wrote: “If you’re angry at the Republican senators who voted for a cover-up of the president’s corruption, join @IndivisibleTeam —an @OnwardTogether partner—to hold them accountable for enabling Donald Trump.”
In that tweet, she linked to something called the Payback Project, which seems to be a left-wing voter initiative to defeat nine Republican senators they have deemed vulnerable. Some of their targets appear questionable – Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell – but we’re sure this has much more to do with raising money and filling the pockets of “community organizers” than it does in winning elections, so what’s the diff?
Clinton was not, of course, the only liberal running around like Chicken Little in the hours after acquittal.
“Just as he falsely claimed to have been exonerated by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump is now likely to portray his acquittal as vindication of his conduct, and proof that Democrats engaged in a partisan ‘witch hunt’ to nullify the 2016 election,” wrote the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board. “We fear that, with this acquittal in hand, he might feel freer to cheat in the upcoming election or to otherwise violate the norms, rules and laws that have historically constrained self-dealing by the president. If he does, the senators who winked at his wrongdoing will be co-conspirators.”
You sometimes have to sit back and wonder: Do these rubes really believe their own hype, or are they just serving up what they think their mentally-challenged readers want to hear? How can ANYONE, on either side of the political spectrum, still believe that there was anything to the Russia Hoax?
Nancy Speechripper Pelosi was also predictably hyper in denouncing the acquittal.
“Our Founders put safeguards in the Constitution to protect against a rogue president,” Pelosi said in a statement. “They never imagined that they would at the same time have a rogue leader in the Senate who would cowardly abandon his duty to uphold the Constitution.”
No, Nancy, they foresaw all of this. They knew that partisan hatred might lead a deranged House Speaker to impeach a president for little more than a conspiracy theory. That’s why they required a trial in the Senate, where cooler heads might prevail. Thank God, that’s what happened this time.
