In an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) of the Senate Judiciary Committee said that he would get to the bottom of the “attempted bureaucratic coup” that former Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe described in an appearance on “60 Minutes.” Graham said that his committee would go as far as to subpoena former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if that’s what it required for the Senate to figure out how far along this plot developed.
Graham was stunned and irate after the McCabe interview, in which he confirmed that Rosenstein had offered to wear a wire when speaking to President Trump in the wake of Comey’s firing. McCabe also said that there were several high-level discussions within the administration about getting Vice President Mike Pence and a majority of the Cabinet on board with a scheme to use the 25th Amendment to oust Trump from office.
“I think everybody in the country needs to know if it happened,” Graham said. “I’m going to do everything I can to get to the bottom of Department of Justice, FBI behavior toward President Trump and his campaign.”
On the same program, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) said that while McCabe’s remarks deserved congressional attention, he disagreed with Graham’s assessment of their importance.
“I don’t think that this frankly rises to the level of some deep state conspiracy or a serious attempt at what Senator Graham called an administrative coup,” Coons said. “I suspect that once this is fully discussed, it’ll be clearer that this was a brief of passing conversation that’s been taken out of context.”
Sure it will.
We’re done being shocked by the extent to which Democrats will go to cover up this cover-up, but it is remarkable how willing the general public is to go along with this insanity. We have Andrew McCabe telling us straight out that high-level administration officials were willing to use the 25th Amendment – a part of the Constitution aimed at avoiding another “Kennedy in the hospital” scenario – to remove Trump from office, and people are willing to look the other way and shrug? To write it off as a “passing conversation?” That’s worse than neglect. That’s worse than partisanship. To demonstrate that level of intellectual dishonesty is to be complicit in the coup itself.
We pray that Lindsey Graham remains true to his word, because there is a whole lot the American people deserve to know about what the bureaucratic deep state has done to undermine the 2016 election. We have a feeling that we have only scratched the surface. If what we know so far is largely what these creeps have had the gall to admit in public, just imagine what we DON’T KNOW. Just imagine what it is that they aren’t saying.
Just imagine how far Democrats will go to make Americans believe that none of it matters.
