It’s amusing to see the media sic their dogs on Rudy Giuliani as if he’s in the middle of a public nervous breakdown and then pretend that it’s perfectly normal for a sitting member of the House of Representatives to act the way Maxine Waters does. We’ll be the first to admit that Giuliani’s recent media tour has not been among the more effective defenses of President Trump that we could imagine, but there’s a vast gulf of difference between the calm, professional tones of the former New York mayor and this raving lunatic who represents California on Capitol Hill.
Alas, Waters benefits from the fact that it’s apparently racist to criticize her, so she’s free to go out their and beclown herself without worrying about any significant consequences. And she was in full greasepaint this weekend when she gave a speech for the Los Angeles Teamsters union, ranting about her favorite subject: President Trump.
“We’re in a difficult time in this country,” she said. “We’re almost at a constitutional crisis in the United States of America.”
Yawn. Boring. Waters seemed to realize she was losing her audience, because in the time it took her to fetch a breath, the country went from “almost” being in a constitutional crisis to actually crossing over INTO one. Wow.
“We’re at a constitutional crisis because we’ve got a president, the likes of which we’ve never seen before,” she said. “You know, some people think his antics sometimes are funny, sometimes cute, sometimes unusual. And to say, ‘Well, you know, he’s going to learn to become presidential. That’s a lie! He’s never going to be presidential.”
So, to recap this proclamation from the mentally-gifted Maxine Waters: The United States of America is in a constitutional crisis because we’ve got a president who doesn’t behave…presidentially enough to satisfy her. Hmm. Please, explain further, Madam Representative.
“He’s never going to be presidential because he does not respect the Constitution of the United States of America and he is no friend to organized labor,” she said.
Yes, it is of course mandated by the Constitution that every president must bend over backwards to placate the Teamsters union. How silly of us to forget.
Well, we suppose you preach to your audience, which is why Waters went on to say, “Damn this president! We’re not going to let him destroy organized labor.”
Maybe it takes a certain kind of genius (stable or otherwise) to make sense of Waters’ ramblings, because we can’t do it. All we know is that if she were a Republican, she would join the likes of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann as a fixture of late night comedy monologues. But because she’s a black Democrat, we have to sit around and pretend that there is some form of sly wisdom underneath her nonsensical exterior.
Say, Maxine, you hate Trump so much…why not run against him in 2020? We’d love to see you in the primaries, only to see how far you have to get before Democrats are forced to stop pretending that you aren’t actually a lunatic in a James Brown wig.
Which is a hilarious idea until you realize that she could probably get the damn nomination…
No, even then, it’s still hilarious.
