According to a new CNN poll, 53% of Americans would vote for Mitt Romney if a repeat of the 2012 election were to happen today. Pitted once more against President Barack Obama, Romney would take the presidency. Only 44% of the vote would go to our current beleaguered president.
That President Obama is unpopular right now is hardly news. He has mishandled issue after issue, his Obamacare rollout continues to color the national view of his administration, and he seems to be on the verge of cheap ralph lauren polomaking some grave errors as it pertains to the Israel/Gaza conflict. This is a president who has proven his critics right and has begun to lose the support of his most fervent followers. So unpopular is this president that the only surprise about CNN’s poll is that so many Americans would vote for the guy again. Is Romney that despised or is this just the percentage of those polled who would never vote for a Republican even if the opposing Democrat is a stumbling, bumbling nightmare?
It’s worth noting, of course, that Romney benefits from not actually being in the fray. An unproven, but promising, commodity always looks better than the one that has been shown time and again to be a loser. Would Romney have been up to the task of solving the border crisis? His waffling on the issue was nearly as bad as Obama’s, and it was clear canada goose kensington parka early on that he was more interested in garnering Hispanic votes than putting an end to the problem.
When it came to foreign policy, there’s almost no question that Romney would have been preferable over Obama and Kerry. His tough talk on Putin, his insistence on reigning in China, and his unqualified support for Israel showed him to be a serious player in the foreign landscape even though he brought little direct experience to the table. That’s not a serious condemnation, though, as he would have undoubtedly surrounded himself with good people with similar views.
The economy is a wildcard, and there’s little to say that Romney would have presided over a more promising outlook. While it’s certain that Obama’s economic policies have slowed growth, the absence of them is not a guarantee to a kick-started economy. There are hundreds of factors entirely outside a president’s control when it comes to the unemployment rate, though this particular president has done more than enough damage on his own.
Romney wasn’t quite a RINO, but he wasn’t exactly a true-blue conservative, either. Few conservatives are sitting around pining away for the lost Romney cheap barbour jackets administration. He may have looked a little like Ronald Reagan, but he wasn’t even in the same league.
On the other hand, there’s Obama, a man who was easily trounced by his competitor in three separate debates and has played every card in his hand during his six years in office. Very few of them have been welcome. This new poll says that Americans would vote Romney if given the election over again, but it won’t be Romney and Obama in 2016. Unless the conservative base can put up a candidate with at least some canada goose outlet torontoof that powerful conservative spirit, we may see the country move irretrievably to the left. The values are important, but you have to nominate someone who can sell them. Hopefully, we will.
