Defense Secretary James “Mad Dog” Mattis has split with President Trump by announcing that transgender troops will continue to be allowed to serve in the military as a study is conducted regarding their effect on troop morale and cohesiveness. The announcement, which essentially returns things to the way they were before Trump made his decision, shows that there continues to be some degree of daylight between the Pentagon and the Commander-in-Chief.
“Once the panel reports its recommendations and following my consultation with the secretary of Homeland Security, I will provide my advice to the president concerning implementation of his policy direction,” Mattis said in a statement. “In the interim, current policy with respect to currently serving members will remain in place.”
White House guidance on the new policy gave Secretary Mattis authorization to do what he just did here, but the optics for this still make it look like an administration in disarray. It is up to the Secretary of Defense to carry out the president’s orders in an effective and expeditious manner. If there are internal disagreements, so be it. But once the president gives his orders, it should be the sole duty of a man in Mattis’s position to make sure those orders are carried out as quickly as possible. By making this announcement, Mattis not only gives transgender troops currently enlisted more time in the military, he opens the door once again for the possibility that the Pentagon could fund medical treatment related to gender transitioning.
“As directed, we will develop a study and implementation plan, which will contain the steps that will promote military readiness, lethality, and unit cohesion, with due regard for budgetary constraints and consistent with applicable law,” Mattis said. “I will establish a panel of experts serving within the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to provide advice and recommendations on the implementation of the president’s direction.”
What possible need is there for all of this? What, exactly does our military lose by excluding transgender troops from service? The mere idea that our military will somehow be LESS prepared after this expulsion is laughable, and we defy any LGBT organization to prove otherwise. Will we lose one or two good “men?” Perhaps. But that will be vastly outweighed by the benefits of freeing our military from the burdens of this ridiculous social experiment and the taxpayer culpability of paying for these freaks to undergo their hormone therapy.
Far worse, however, is a Pentagon that takes a president’s orders into consideration and then puts them on ice while waiting for some “study” to be done by some bureaucratic machine. That’s not the way things are supposed to be done. Here, once again, we see that the deep state – which extends all the way into the Defense Department – is trying to prevent Donald Trump from inheriting the full powers of the presidency. That’s a travesty, and it could ultimately be a dangerous one.
