Instead of doing the sensible, responsible thing and taking impeachment entirely off the table, the Democratic Party’s worst propagandists are telling the country that they will merely save this divisive, useless stab at democracy until a little closer to Christmas time. Thank Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) for donning the Grinch costume, because he’s determined to make all of us hate Washington just a little bit more before 2020 comes ringing in.
“If we decide to report articles of impeachment,” Nadler told MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “we could get to that late in the fall, in the latter part of the year.”
Um-hmm. And what’s stopping you from going forward with it now, Jerry? The Mueller report is in your hands, is it not? You’ve already gotten your precious testimony from the report’s (purported) author. Hell, you’ve even wasted America’s time with a circus-style hearing featuring convicted criminal Michael Cohen! All of it has conspired to prove absolutely nothing about President Trump’s so-called crimes. So what’s left to do?
Nadler is petitioning a federal judge to get lawmakers access to grand jury evidence collected by former special counsel Robert Mueller, and his committee is preparing to sue former White House counsel Don McGahn to compel his testimony in the committee’s ongoing investigation into potential abuses of power by Trump.
“I think that we will probably get court decisions by the end of October, maybe shortly thereafter. We’ll have hearings in September and October with people we don’t — witnesses who are not dependent on the court proceedings,” Nadler said.
Unwilling to let Nadler escape the obvious – that the Senate will quickly vote to acquit the president of the House’s partisan impeachment vote – panelist Mike Barnicle asked the New York Democrat if there was really any point to moving forward.
“If we show that this president ought to be impeached and the people support it,” Nadler said, “if the Senate doesn’t [vote to remove], then we’ll defeat a lot of Republican senators next year.”
Hey, we were wrong, he’s not the Grinch. He’s the magical wishing fairy, hoping against hope that some way, somehow, the utter collapse of the Russian conspiracy theory will actually get MORE people on board for impeachment by the time 2019 is through.
We’ve seen Democrats put their faith in some mighty strange theories, but this might just take the cake.
