For as long as she’s been in office, California Representative Nancy Pelosi has been a persistent vision of the worst liberalism has to offer. Not only does Pelosi represent her home state, she also represents the complete lack of sense often seen in Democrats. She is also one of the Republican party’s biggest critics, often resorting to pure fabrication to attack her opponents and support her party. She characterizes the GOP as fear-mongers, using threats to encroach on personal liberties, a criticism that takes an appalling lack of self-awareness.
Pelosi is in the news this week for comments she made on the Bill Maher show Friday. Maher asked her if it made any difference if Democrats lost the Senate in November as many polls indicate is likely to happen. Her answer was predictable, if only because everything Pelosi says is as out-of-touch with middle America as her home city of San Francisco.
“It would be very important for the Democrats to retain control of the Senate,” Pelosi said. “Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate.” She later characterized the Democrats as “messengers of hope,” putting her in the running for the Most Ludicrous Statement of the Year award.
Still, Pelosi doesn’t think that her party is in any trouble. She went on to offer her opinion that pollsters were out of touch with current communication models, using their failure to predict Eric Cantor’s primary loss as an example. Unfortunately for her, while she’s probably not wrong about outdated polling methods, the Cantor election went to someone further to the right than he was. Not sure how that bodes well for the Democrats in November.
Then again, we’re talking about someone who only remains in politics because she happens to live in the most liberal area of the country. Some who has dropped the following quotes on the country:
- We have to pass Obamacare to find out what’s in it
- Obama has never done anything for political reasons
- Obamacare will lower everyone’s rates
- Unemployment benefits are creating jobs faster than practically any other program
And so on.
Pelosi’s hamfisted attempts at stirring up controversy should be mocked by the mainstream media in the same way they attack Palin, Bachmann, and others on the right, but of course she gets a pass because she’s one of them. Even Bill Maher had a hard time keeping a straight face, and he’s pretty far to the left himself.
It would be instructive to know what Pelosi considers the “end of civilization.” Closed borders? Restraint on liberal spending? A sound strategy to defeat these lunatics in Iraq who are making ritual beheadings a regular thing? If those things mark the end of civilization, please, bring it on. We’re more than ready.
