Planned Parenthood officials, already hanging onto their federal funding by a thread in the Era of Trump, are fit to be tied after the latest staffing move from the administration. They are not pleased with the appointment of Valerie Huber to the role of acting deputy assistant secretary for population affairs at HHS, where she will decide – singlehandedly – where Title X money goes over the next year or so.
Planned Parenthood and other anti-life organizations have long depended on this federal money, which is deemed earmarked for “family planning.” Of course, it is part of the theater of the absurd that abortion clinics should get ANY money set aside for such a purpose. Planned Parenthood is a destroyer of families, not a planner of one.
One might wonder what, if any, role the federal government has in “family planning” in the first place. Be that as it may, the law is the law. All the Trump administration can do is make the best of it. And if that means taking the Title X funding decision out of the hands of a committee and putting it in the hands of a woman who has proven her pro-life credentials, we’d say that’s something we can get behind.
Naturally, it has Abortion America and all of its champions steaming mad.
Prior to joining the Trump administration, Huber was president and CEO of Ascend, a national organization that promoted “sexual risk avoidance” — a term she used instead of abstinence — among young people. Huber also managed the Ohio Department of Health’s sexual risk avoidance program from 2004 to 2007.
Women’s health advocates on the other side of the debate fear that the Trump administration will funnel money away from groups that provide contraception and toward crisis pregnancy centers that oppose abortion or groups that promote abstinence-only education.
“This is unprecedented, and has dangerous implications,” said Kashif Syed, a senior analyst at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “We’re talking about a program that 4 million people rely on for basic reproductive health care — or in many cases, their only form of health care. Now is not the time to play politics with people’s lives — but that’s exactly what the Trump-Pence administration is doing.”
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: If Planned Parenthood is against something, we’re 99% certain to support it. Never in the history of this country has their existed a company driven and supported by as much evil as this one. If the Trump administration is going to divert even a single penny away from their murderous coffers, we wholeheartedly celebrate the decision.
