A scientist who used to work for the National Climatic Data Center now says that a 2015 study from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was politically-motivated. Dr. John Bates told The Daily Mail that the study exaggerated the rate of global warming to push international leaders to take drastic steps against carbon emissions.
According to Bates, the NOAA wanted their scientists “to discredit the notion of a global warming hiatus and rush to time the publication of the paper to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy.”
He said the agency was under pressure to refute the growing evidence for a pause in global warming that had kept temperatures stable since 1998. To that end, Bates claimed, the scientists made a “blatant attempt to intensify the impact” of warming trends using unverified data. He objected to the report at the time, but his superiors told him to take a hike. The NOAA was gearing up for the Paris climate summit, and they didn’t need pesky whistleblowers mucking up what promised to be a major political victory.
House Republicans are currently investigation the study in question. Known as the “Karl study,” it has come under congressional scrutiny for its unsupported conclusions.
“Dr. Bates’ revelations and NOAA’s obstruction certainly lend credence to what I’ve expected all along – that the Karl study used flawed data, was rushed to publication in an effort to support the president’s climate change agenda, and ignored NOAA’s own standards for scientific study,” Rep. Lamar Smith said in a statement.
Leftists see any “climate denial” as being generated by the oil industry, but they aren’t willing to admit that there are plenty of financial motivations for keeping the climate hysteria going. Including, of course, NOAA’s desire to maintain and increase their own budget. That can only be accomplished as long as they present global warming as a growing threat to the world – one that can only be countered using data they themselves generate.
That’s all well and good as long as we stick to the facts, but we left those behind a long time ago in favor of politics. Climate change is giving liberal Democrats a valuable tool in their war on capitalism. If they have to fudge the numbers here and there to get what they want, it’ll take more than one honest scientist to stop them.
