The Karen Krew is on the job in Pasadena.
According to the local Los Angeles CBS station, the city “will have volunteers walking city streets to ensure people are wearing face coverings.” Instead of leaving the decision to wear a mask OUTSIDE to the individual, these volunteer busybodies are going to traipse up and down the sidewalks like grown-up hall monitors, looking high and low for anyone who isn’t getting with the program. The article explains that when the volunteers come across one of the filthy non-compliant, they will hand them a mask. If the person already has a mask, they will “make sure” the person wear it.
How this volunteer force will do that is not made entirely clear.
From CBSLA:
Pasadena city spokesperson Lisa Derderian told CBSLA Thursday the Rose Bowl Loop has been an area of concern. Last weekend, code enforcement officers informed 75 runners on the Rose Bowl loop trail that they need to wear face coverings.
“This is something that we need to take very seriously, our numbers are significantly increasing daily, hospitalization is going up, the data shows that we’re gonna need to shut down more,” Derderian said.
Derderian said about 60 signs reminding people to wear masks were taken down or vandalized this week.
Meanwhile, a limited stay-at-home order took effect Friday for Pasadena. It prohibits all public and private gatherings and events with people from more than one household — except for faith-based services and protests.
Hold up. Officers actually went out on an outside trail and cited hikers and runners for refusing to wear face masks? What possible sense does that make? Every bit of science we’ve heard since the beginning of this thing tells us that outdoor spread is highly unlikely, and we imagine that most of these runners were naturally “socially distanced.” So what’s the point of giving them citations or pestering them to wear masks? This is a city out of control, and their recruitment of a volunteer force smacks of an even darker turn towards anti-freedom, nanny-state policies. And we’re being generous by not using even harsher language.
Can’t wait to see if this Karen Krew will be at the next Black Lives Matter rally to chide and lecture activists about their COVID-dangerous gathering. Something tells us they’ll find somewhere else to be.
