If Democrats were still hoping to ride a blue wave into the midterm elections, retake the Senate, and obstruct President Donald Trump for the next two years, they may now realize that they were making the age-old mistake of counting their chickens before they hatched. Not only are Trump’s approval numbers on the rise, but a new poll from the New York Times (!) and Survey Monkey shows that a majority of Americans now approve of the tax reform legislation passed by Congress last year. The Republican Party has put more money back in the pockets of working Americans, the economy is booming, and it is going to take a lot more than phony Russian conspiracy theories to put Democrats back in a seat of power.
According to the poll, 51% of Americans approve of the tax legislation and 46% disapprove. Presumably, this second number consists entirely of dyed-in-the-wool Democrats who will NEVER admit that Republicans did something good for the country. Indeed, only 19% of Democrats approve of the bill as opposed to 89% of Republicans. Well, that’s the difference between having a job and taking handouts for a living.
“The growing public support for the law coincides with an eroding Democratic lead when voters are asked which party they would like to see control Congress,” reported the NY Times. “And it follows an aggressive effort by Republicans, backed by millions of dollars of advertising from conservative groups, to persuade voters of the law’s benefits.”
Right, of course the Times has to tell us that the only reason that Americans now believe in the tax cuts is because there was some highly-funded propaganda campaign relieving them of their senses. But you’ll notice that when the majority of Americans oppose something the Trump administration does, they never bother to talk about how the poll follows enormous Democrat-funded campaigns against said something. Nor do they ever mention the simple fact that the media – themselves included – have not reported a single positive thing about it. No, but when people support part of the Republican agenda, we have to be assured that there’s chicanery going on.
These people literally never quit, do they?
The FACT of the matter is that Americans don’t need to “be convinced” of the tax bill’s benefits. They are seeing those benefits in their paychecks. They are reading about them every day in the form of hundreds of companies giving their employees unprecedented bonuses as a result of the legislation. They are seeing it reflected in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. And they will, very soon, see it in their tax refunds.
When you have a piece of legislation this good, it sells itself. And unless the Democrats can pull a hell of a rabbit out of their hat between now and November, their dreams of a mighty comeback will remain just that: Dreams.
