Well, when you can’t win a political debate with rational, sensible arguments, what else can you do but reach for the absurd. That’s what liberal Democrats appear to now be doing with the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, which they are still desperate to stop from happening. According to chief liberal nutball Dana Milbank in the Washington Post, Republicans may be in violation of international law if they try to repeal Obama’s signature healthcare legislation.
The United Nations has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing the Affordable Care Act without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States. It turns out that the notion that “health care is a right” is more than just a Democratic talking point.
A confidential, five-page “urgent appeal” from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner on Human Rights in Geneva, sent to the Trump administration, cautions that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act could put the United States at odds with its international obligations. The Feb. 2 memo, which I obtained Tuesday, was sent to the State Department and expresses “serious concern” about the prospective loss of health coverage for almost 30 million people, which could violate “the right to social security of the people in the United States.”
Milbank admits that no one in the Trump administration is going to take the slightest concern over the letter and he further admits that there is nothing the United Nations can do about it.
What he does not admit is that no one in the Republican Party is threatening to “take away” anyone’s healthcare. No, not even their health insurance, which is of course not a “right” by any stretch of the imagination. They are merely trying to get the federal government out of the health insurance industry, where it had no business being in the first place.
Rest assured that the busybodies at the United Nations ALREADY consider the U.S. to be in violation of international law, with or without Obamacare. And yet, there are countless Islamic dictatorships who are just fine according to these moronic leftists. If ever we needed another reason to break from the UN, here it is. And if you need another one, just wait around for a week or two; they’ll provide it.
It’s not incumbent on the U.S. to live up to the standards of socialists and theocrats, many of whom think nothing about exterminating their own citizens and supporting terrorism around the world. It is only through U.S. aid that many of these countries can even exist in the first place. And now they want to bite the hand that feeds them. Well, maybe it’s time we just withdraw that hand and let them figure out their own problems for a while. Then they can come lecture us about how to run our country.
