Despite having the overwhelming support of the mainstream news media, activists who support the rights of illegal immigrants have not won over the American population. According to a new Harvard-Harris Poll published by The Hill, 80% of voters think that there is no place in the country for “sanctuary cities” that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
President Trump has directed the Department of Homeland Security to look for ways to strip sanctuary cities of their federal funding. Mayors of those cities, which include major metropolitan areas like Chicago and San Francisco, have vowed to fight any attempt on the part of the administration to take away their grant money. As you may have guessed, those cities are almost exclusively run by Democrats.
While most Americans are opposed to sanctuary cities, they are also in favor of new immigration laws. The poll found that 77% of voters want Congress to pursue comprehensive immigration reform, a term that usually hints at some form of amnesty for illegal immigrants already living in the U.S.
“While there is broad support for comprehensive immigration reform, there is overwhelming opposition to sanctuary cities,” said pollster Mark Penn. “The public wants honest immigrants treated fairly and those who commit crimes deported and that’s very clear from the data.”
The poll also found that 52% of voters support Trump’s border wall, 75% support an expansion of border patrol agents, and 53% are in favor of Trump’s travel ban, which was struck down by the courts.
Now imagine what these numbers would look like if the media reported on these subjects with anything resembling a balanced, fair approach. As it stands, it’s almost miraculous that the numbers are this high in Trump’s favor. It just goes to show you how disconnected the liberal media is with the average American. Not that we really needed any further evidence of that.
Given the Department of Homeland Security’s new memos and Trump’s promise of a new executive order to replace the one blocked in the courts, we are well on our way to fixing some of the biggest problems plaguing this nation. Finally! All it took was one Republican with the guts to stand up and say what all of us were thinking and the courage to follow through in the face of unbelievable resistance.
