We won’t argue with anyone who thinks it’s a wise idea to get off of Facebook. There are many good and sound reasons to do so. On the other hand, if you are only inspired to delete your account because CEO Mark Zuckerberg had dinner with a handful of conservatives? Well, then maybe Facebook is where you need to be. Because if you’re so in-the-bubble that you can’t stand the idea of a liberal talking to someone with opposing views, then you really need to expand your horizons. These must be the same people who got so upset when Ellen DeGeneres was photographed watching a ballgame with Bush last week.
Actually, forget about Facebook. Just…go outside.
Facebook is under scrutiny as #DeleteFacebook has become a trending topic once again in the wake of reports of the social media platform’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg having off-the-record dinners with conservatives.
According to Politico, the dinners began in July and were an attempt to connect with the right after Donald Trump said that Facebook had a bias against conservatives. From Zuckerberg’s actions, many suspect that these dinners are to cater to Trump’s White House. The political news site said a source said that the dinners have been focused on “free expression, unfair treatment of conservatives, the appeals process for real or perceived unfair treatment, fact checking, partnerships and privacy.”
“There’s some press today discussing dinners I’ve had with conservative politicians, media and thinkers,” said Zuckerberg in a post on Facebook. “To be clear, I have dinners with lots of people across the spectrum on lots of different issues all the time. Meeting new people and hearing from a wide range of viewpoints is part of learning. If you haven’t tried it, I suggest you do!”
One good thing about these Idiot Hashtags: They let you get an up close and personal look at some of the insanity driving the modern left in one convenient page.
“Mark Zuckerberg is corrupt to the core and Facebook systemically silences people of color who call out racism,” tweeted user Saira Rao. “I took down my account a week ago and feel physically and emotionally better.”
Genius Pam Keith wrote: “You could maybe believe that Zucks was just ‘listening to other view points’ if he was also listening to BLM activists, or sitting down w/ @AOC, or talking to Greta Thunberg. He’s huddling with monsters for a reason. If you can, #DeleteFacebook and if not, minimize your FB time.”
We’re not normally ones to defend Zuckerberg, but we wouldn’t wish a sitdown with BLM activists, AOC, or Thunberg on our worst enemies.
“I think we can all agree that ‘I have dinner with *lots* of racist homophobic pro-Trump pro-wall white supremacist conspiracy theory nutjobs you should try it exclamation point lolol’ is not a good look,” tweeted user Violet Blue.
Reiterated: Go outside.
It’s simultaneously unsurprising and dismaying to see how little tolerance the left has for ANY dissent whatsoever. Alas, with condemnation coming from Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and all sorts of Democrat politicians (following years of the same from the right), things are looking shaky for the biggest social media site in the world. Facebook changed the planet in ways we may never be able to fully appreciate. Could be, though, that the planet is ready to move on.
