While the left-wing media was busy praising FBI Agent Peter Strzok for his courageous day in front of those meanie Nazis in the Republican Party, much of Strzok’s actual testimony went underreported. Yes, we all saw Strzok’s painfully-rehearsed defense of the FBI and his loud accusation against Republicans, telling them that they were making Putin very happy with their perfectly-constitutional and exceptionally-necessary oversight of the Justice Department. Yes, we all saw the Democrats applaud him in a wildly unacceptable and outrageous moment of rank partisanship. But few of us got to see the following exchange, wherein we learned that not only did a foreign power gain access to Hillary Clinton’s email server but that Strzok and the rest of the FBI didn’t really even care.
“You said in this hearing you were concerned about a hostile foreign power affecting our election,” said Rep. Louis Gohmert at one point on Thursday. “Do you recall the former Intelligence Community Inspector General Chuck McCullough having an investigation into an anomaly found on Hillary Clinton’s emails?”
Strzok said no.
“Let me refresh your recollection,” Gohmert said. “The Intelligence Community Inspector General Chuck McCullough sent his investigator Frank Rucker along with an ICIG attorney Janette McMillan to brief you and Dean Chapelle and two other FBI personnel that I won’t name at this time, about an anomaly they had found on Hillary Clinton’s emails that were going to and from the private unauthorized server that you were supposed to be investigating.”
Strzok, astoundingly, said he still did not recall the details of such a meeting.
“Mr. Rucker reported to those of you, the four of you there, in the presence of the ICIG attorney, that they had found this anomaly on Hillary Clinton’s emails going through their private server, and when they had done the forensic analysis, they found that her emails, every single one except four, over 30,000, were going to an address that was not on the distribution list. It was a compartmentalized bit of information that was sending it to an unauthorized source,” Gohmert explained.
The next day, we learned from Robert Mueller’s indictments against 12 Russian hackers that Clinton’s email server was indeed compromised by a foreign power. And we realize through Gohmert’s testimony that the FBI knew this was happening in the course of their 2016 investigation into her email scandal. But from the fact that Clinton was never charged to the fact that Strzok did not even REMEMBER having this meeting, it’s clear that no one in the Bureau took this shocking revelation seriously. No one thought, hmm, maybe it’s not great that all of those missing emails could now be in the hands of our enemies.
No, but it’s of paramount importance that Donald Trump once made a joke about Russia turning the emails over to the media.
Are we really still supposed to buy into this crap?
