(TotalConservative.com) – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden chuckled while addressing accusations made by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene that the president is responsible for the death of two brothers from Michigan who died in 2020 from fentanyl overdoses. Taylor Greene’s comments were made in response to a mother slamming the federal government’s response to the fentanyl crisis across the nation.

At a gathering of House Democrats in Maryland, Biden brought up Taylor Greene, asking in jest, “Isn’t she amazing?” He then said that “she was very specific” when she said “that a mom, a poor mother who lost two kids to fentanyl, that I killed her sons.” The president went on to explain that the fentanyl they took “came during the last administration” (shifting the blame onto former President Donald Trump) after which he chuckled.

Critics quickly responded to the president’s comments as tone-deaf and inappropriate.

Republican Sen. Mike Lee from Utah posted a tweet saying that Biden “needs to apologize for this immediately.” He said no one, “let alone the president of the United States,” should laugh “when speaking about a mother who lost two sons to fentanyl poisoning.” Lee also asked Biden what he found amusing about the situation.

Jake Schneider of the Republican National Committee called Biden “a disgusting person” and said the president’s comments were “truly the lowest bar for Biden.”

Rebecca Kiessling, the mother whose two sons, Caleb and Kyler, 20 and 18 years old, died in July 2020 from taking what they were under the impression was Percocet, shared her testimony on Tuesday with the House Homeland Security Committee. She pleaded with the federal government to do more to stop the importation of fentanyl.

Apparently, Taylor Greene missed the date of the deaths when she made her comments on Twitter, but Kiessling said this was no excuse for the president’s response. In a video posted to Facebook shortly after, she asked the president, “This is how you speak about the death of my sons? Because a congresswoman misspoke? You mock the loss of my sons?”

Between 2018 and 2021, nearly 200,000 Americans died from fentanyl, most of which was imported from China.
