In a remark that has to be a late contender for Liberal Quote of the Year, California Gov. Jerry Brown – an unrepentant Democrat who has gone further than most in the fight for abortion in his state – told 60 Minutes this weekend that because President Trump doesn’t want to sacrifice the American economy on the altar of the climate change agenda…well…he was probably headed for the flames of Hades.
“I don’t think President Trump has a fear of the Lord, the fear of the wrath of God, which leads one to more humility,” Brown pontificated. “This is such a reckless disregard for the truth and for the existential consequences that can be unleashed.”
In addition to being one of the pro-abortion movement’s greatest champions, Gov. Brown sees himself as the true American leader on climate change in the absence of a sympathetic president. This year, he flew to the United Nations climate change conference in Bonn, styling himself as the U.S. representative on environmental policy.
Be all of that as it may, Brown jumped the shark when he questioned Trump’s relationship to God – ESPECIALLY in terms of his political position on climate change. It’s like…seriously? You’re willing to sentence hundreds of thousands of unborn babies to die with your ultra-liberal abortion legislation, and you’re going to question whether TRUMP fears the wrath of God? You have to be kidding. Whether you’re kidding us or yourself, we don’t know, but we can’t guaran-damn-tee you’re not fooling the Lord above with your phony moralizing.
Contrary to what liberal Democrats like Brown would have you believe, Trump is not abdicating leadership when it comes to climate change and environmental policy. In fact, he’s doing quite the opposite. For at least eight years, American leaders have handed off leadership on this topic to Europe and other international globalists in an apologetic, limp-wristed way that culminated in the Paris Agreement.
President Obama essentially went to the leaders of the world and said, “Hey guys, we’re really sorry for using up all of these fossil fuels and making the world a terrible place. We’re sorry for turning our air conditioners down so low. We’re sorry for driving those big SUVs. Basically, we’re sorry for…well, for being us. We’ll do whatever you want us to do to make it right.”
Well, what these global leaders wanted us to do was to slash our bedrock energy industries and start forking over billions of dollars to developing countries so they could begin to benefit from all of the same fuels we would no longer be using. And Obama just went right ahead and did it – signed away our sovereignty and our money so we would look like the “good guys.” That was considered a moment of great leadership in liberal America.
When that’s the standard, why should Trump or any other Republican listen to what Jerry Brown has to say?
