In one of the more unfortunate displays of anti-Christian bias we’ve seen in quite some time on Capitol Hill, Democrat Senators Mazie Hirono and Kamala Harris grilled Nebraska U.S. District Court nominee Brian Buescher over his membership in the Catholic Knights of Columbus organization. Suggesting on multiple occasions that Buescher’s participation in a Catholic charity could impede his ability to be impartial, the senators laid open their suspicions of Christian religion and showed that the modern Democratic Party is far, far from the ideology of our nation’s founders.

From the Catholic News Agency:

In written questions sent to Buescher by committee members Dec. 5, Sen. Hirono stated that “the Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions. For example, it was reportedly one of the top contributors to California’s Proposition 8 campaign to ban same-sex marriage.”

Hirono then asked Buescher if he would quit the group if he was confirmed “to avoid any appearance of bias.”

“The Knights of Columbus does not have the authority to take personal political positions on behalf of all of its approximately two million members,” Buescher responded.

“If confirmed, I will apply all provisions of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges regarding recusal and disqualification,” he said.

Kathleen Blomquist, spokesperson for the Knights of Columbus, told CNA that the senators’ questions echoed the kind of anti-Catholicism seen in previous generations of American history.

“Our country’s sad history of anti-Catholic bigotry contributed to the founding of the Knights of Columbus, and we are proud of the many Catholics who overcame this hurdle to contribute so greatly to our country,” Blomquist told CNA.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see what this is about, of course. If you guessed abortion, pat yourself on the back and have yourself a Christmas cookie. Harris and Hirono are good little feminist Democrats, and that means they put a woman’s “constitutional right to an abortion” above just about every other matter of legal concern. It’s all well and fine to be a “Christian,” but you’ve got to get up there on the stand and admit that, well, it’s not all that important to you to stop organizations like Planned Parenthood from destroying a million lives a year. Then you, too, can get through Democrat confirmation!

“If confirmed, I will faithfully apply all United States Supreme Court and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals precedent on all issues, including Roe v. Wade,” Buescher assured the Senate Judiciary Committee.

We’re sure Harris, Hirono, and Cory Booker would be much more relaxed to confirm an avowed Satanist or a former lawyer for Planned Parenthood to the bench, but you have to take them as they come in the Trump era, eh?

At least they didn’t try to railroad his career with 40-year-old thinly-recalled sexual assault allegations!
