(TotalConservative.com) – A medical examiner report was just released revealing the cause of death for actor Tyler Christopher to be positional asphyxia from “acute alcohol intoxication” and determined the death to be an accident.
Positional asphyxia means that Christopher suffocated after passing out following an evening of drinking. Other conditions were listed as contributing factors to his death, including “coronary artery atherosclerosis,” which is caused by a buildup of plaque in the coronary artery walls that supply the heart with blood.
The “General Hospital” star died on Halloween last year and was discovered in his bedroom by a friend and “unresponsive.” The friend called 911, according to the report. Christopher was 50.
Chi Lo, a representative for the actor, confirmed his death in a statement on Oct. 31, describing the news as “incredibly shocking.” Lo said she was “devastated” by the loss and described Christopher as “a very gifted actor” as well as “an amazing friend,” sending condolences to his family and friends.
The actor is most well-known for playing the characters Nikolas Cassadine and Connor Bishop on the popular daytime soap opera “General Hospital,” a show Christopher worked on for over 20 years. The official Instagram account for the TV show posted a statement about the actor’s death from its producer, Frank Valentini, who said he was “heartbroken over the news” and described Christopher as “kind,” “an incredible actor,” and a “dear friend.” Valentini sent condolences to the actor’s loved ones.
One of Christopher’s co-stars from “General Hospital,” Maurice Benard, also posted a statement on Instagram and confirmed that the actor was discovered in his apartment in San Diego after suffering “a cardiac event.” He called Christopher “a truly talented individual” and a “sweet soul.”
Benard also said that Christopher was a mental health and substance abuse treatment advocate who spoke about his struggles openly. The actor had a history of alcoholism. In May of last year, he was arrested at an airport for public intoxication.
