(TotalConservative.com) – Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) is getting some flak from her own party after endorsing expanded school choice. Her new proposal would establish 85 more privately run charter schools in New York City, dramatically enhancing the options for NYC parents and students. Curiously the most irate are members of her own party who regularly collect political donations from teachers’ unions.

One student from the Bronx charter school system was incredibly thankful for the opportunity to attend Comp Science High, a charter school. Stephon Nembhard told the New York Post that he credited his college acceptance, internships, and networking connections with attending a charter school. In short, the very thing Democrats want to take away from poor kids is what is helping them become successful adults.

Some have suggested that is intention. Father and author of “Black Victim to Black Victor” Adam Coleman suggested the policy was intended to maintain “the status quo divide of success and failure.” He further suggested that if charter schools were a benefit to wealthy aristocrats on the Upper East Side, Democrats would endorse them.

Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn called it “another way of dismantling our public school system” even though she acknowledged in the same breath that these schools are effectively public schools. Crying about “segregation” and educational “disparities,” Hermelyn refused to acknowledge that most of the privately run charter schools are chosen by parents who have low incomes.

Roughly 15% of NYC children are attending privately-run publicly funded charter schools. The vast majority of those are considered “economically disadvantaged” or come from low-income households. Out of all the boroughs, the Bronx has the most charter schools and is historically a high crime low-income area of the city.

Coleman points out that Democrats like Hermelyn prefer to build statues (or pull them down) as a gesture of goodwill toward black Americans, but they won’t actually help them become self-sufficient and economically successful via a good primary education. The hypocrisy of sending their own kids to private schools while attempting to force poor kids to endure government indoctrination (now with Drag Queens!) is a particularly insidious form of deception and gaslighting all too common to Democratic leadership.
