Well, now they’re coming right out and saying it. It’s not only unseemly and inappropriate to criticize Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s witch hunt into the president’s campaign, it’s actually downright unpatriotic.

That, at least, is the contention that CNN’s Jake Tapper made when he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday. Asked about the House Republicans and their attempt to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Tapper said that there has been a concerted effort within the party to interfere with the Mueller investigation.

“Now, part of the investigation has to do with Donald Trump and whether or not anybody in his orbit cooperated but there was a larger investigation about what happened and how can we prevent it from happening again,” Tapper said. “A whole bunch of people in Washington were trying to prevent the investigation from going forward. Imagine if somebody tried to prevent the investigation in Pearl Harbor happened from going forward, you would say that person was not patriotic.”

There’s that comparison again, and it’s no less insane now than when it was made the first time. Russia’s meddling in our 2016 affairs was not an act of war; it was the dirty actions of a state, not much different from what the U.S. does in other countries and what other countries have done to us. If this was an “attack” on the U.S., then we were also attacked by Ukraine, which provided information about Trump to the Clinton campaign during the election. Do you hear anyone comparing that to Pearl Harbor or 9/11? Of course not, because the idea is asinine and absurd. We’d like Jake Tapper to explain how many Americans died as a result of Russia trolling Facebook. See if he can answer that question with a straight face, Colbert.

“You know, it’s obvious people are doing things to protect President Trump and to protect the politics of this all, but this is beyond the politics of it all,” Tapper continued. “It has to do with a sovereign nation being attacked by Russia. The idea that there are people in Washington trying to undermine it, trying to stop it, they don’t want the truth to come out about this, about an attack on the United States, just blows my mind every time I think about it.”

Literally no one is trying to do what Tapper is concerned about. What House Republicans are trying to do, quite to the contrary of what he’s insinuating, is get to the bottom of the sham aspect of this investigation, which is the part that concerns the Trump campaign. Mueller can investigate the Russians until the cows come home, and we hope that he does. But Tapper knows and we know and Trump knows and Stephen Colbert knows that no one’s hanging on the edge of their seat to see what Russian national Mueller indicts next. The left ONLY cares about this investigation to the extent that it implicates the president, aka, their sworn enemy.

So please: Spare us the fake patriotism and the “attack on America” BS. Hillary Clinton lost when she wasn’t “supposed” to lose, and that’s ALL this is about. Period. It’s unpatriotic, or at the very least, blatantly deceptive, to claim anything else.
