After a Washington, D.C. weekend that saw Antifa members and Black Lives Matter activists show up to ostensibly protest white supremacy and, in reality, scream at and assault police officers while causing chaos and destruction, CNN’s Chris Cuomo went out of his way to make sure that no one watching his broadcast would take that to mean these were bad people. They are, after all, “ANTIFAscists,” right? How can you be against fascism and still be a bad person?
Well, it’s easy to see how a viewer could watch these masked thugs throwing eggs and bottles at police and come away just a little bit confused. So let’s thank Mr. Cuomo for clearing it all up for our collective pea brains.
“There’s a lot of what-aboutism and spin going on and it’s kind of sickening to me,” he said, mounting the highest horse he could find in the studio. “But I argue to you tonight, all punches are not equal morally.
“Now, how you fight matters too,” he continued. “There’s no question about that. But drawing a moral equivalency between those espousing hate and those fighting it because they both resort to violence emboldens hate, legitimizes hateful beliefs and elevates what should be stamped out. The bigots are wrong to hit. Antifa,or whomever, anarchists or malcontent or misguided, they are also wrong to hit. But fighting hate is right. And in a clash between hate and those who oppose it, those who oppose it are on the side of right.”
This is, of course, Antifa’s philosophy in a nutshell. Two things worth mentioning: One, if your tactics are the same as the so-called “evil people” that you’re fighting, then there’s a really good chance that you’re going to become a monster yourself. And that’s not even getting into the fact that the evil Antifa is fighting is largely imaginary. Sorry, but walking down the road hollering about white power or “blood and soil” may make you look idiotic, but it isn’t exactly hurting anyone. The same can’t really be said for throwing a bottle or a Molotov cocktail at the cops.
Second, a lot of the people that Antifa considers “fascists” are nothing of the kind. Not sure if Cuomo has been paying attention or not, but these lunatics don’t just pop their masked heads out of the woodwork when there’s a Klan parade. They riot whenever Ben Shapiro, Milo Yiannopoulos, or Ann Coulter come out to speak. They rioted on Trump’s inauguration day. They carry signs calling for the destruction of capitalism and the abolition of law enforcement and American borders.
Someone needs to tell Chris Cuomo and anyone else who defends these leftists that “evil” doesn’t always come marching down the street with a tiki torch. In fact, it seldom does.
