It’s all celebrations in Democrat Land this week after two solid weeks of favorable polls for their nominee, Hillary Clinton. In both national polls and battleground state surveys, Hillary is putting air between her and Republican nominee Donald Trump. This is through no doing of her own, of course; she has merely remained quiet while Trump tours the country on a mission of self-destruction. In the meantime, her cohorts in the media are busy running her campaign for her.

But it’s not November yet, and we’ve already seen a lifetime’s worth of surprises in this election cycle. Anyone who thinks Donald Trump is finished would do well to remember how many people counted him out long ago. Soon, the Khan family will fade into history along with the other Trump mistakes and voters will be forced to take a fresh look at what they’re really deciding in this election. Apart from the daily drama, these two candidates represent starkly different visions for the future of the United States.

That’s not to predict a Trump victory; the tide of the election may swallow his insurgent movement by the time it’s all said and done. But let’s just remember: A lot can happen in three months.

As little as you would know it from watching the news, Hillary Clinton is far from a flawless candidate. She may be the “most qualified candidate in history” to Barack Obama, but she has neither the resume nor the reputation to back that up. Her greatest accomplishment – being named secretary of state – led to a four year tenure of incompetence and left thousands of people dead across the Middle East. The Benghazi attack gets all of the attention, but it’s only one black mark among many.

Perhaps voters will wake up to that.

Or perhaps something else will happen. So much scandal surrounds this woman and her husband that literally anything is possible. Don’t think for a moment that we’ve learned all there is to know about how she used the Clinton Foundation as a private fundraising tool. Don’t think for a second that we’ve seen the last controversial email from her unsecured server. This family’s corruption has been carefully buried, but the right political archeologist could blow it sky high at any time.

When that volcano erupts, Trump’s fortunes could change in an instant.

And so too, America’s.
