Cuomo Unleashes On Dems Over Border

( – Former Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized President Joe Biden and his fellow party members for creating border policies that invite massive numbers of immigrants into the US while hurting American citizens.

On Friday, June 21, Cuomo appeared alongside former Democratic Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois on the HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher” and discussed the ongoing immigration crisis with the late-night talk show host and comedian. Cuomo told Maher that he now believes Biden’s immigration policies have been “a mistake.”

Cuomo said that despite understanding the perspective from “the extreme left” that the US is “a land of immigrants” that welcomes everyone, how America does that “makes all the difference in the world.” The former New York governor slammed the president for not having a plan for the new arrivals, who are overwhelming communities and cities across the nation. He said there is simply no way to “pay for them” and noted how a “couple of hundred thousand” have been placed in hotels and shelters across New York City, which he said is costing the Big Apple “a fortune.”

The HBO host then brought up New York’s current governor, Kathy Hochul, and current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, noting how the two politicians have shifted their messaging about the immigration situation. Hochul and Adams, who started off supporting New York as a “sanctuary” for so-called asylum seekers, eventually began warning that the influx “will destroy” the Big Apple. Maher quipped that if he didn’t know it was them talking, he would think they were Republicans.

Cuomo criticized Hochul and Adams for merely changing their tune while not stopping the surge of immigrants into the city when they “could have stopped them” and “said no,” which the former governor said “many mayors and governors” across the country did. He added that the “ideological left” mindset in New York leadership sent the message that “all are welcome.”

A spokesperson for the mayor refuted Cuomo’s claim, stating that his comments about Adams “are simply not true.” The spokesperson also noted how Adams lacks the “legal ability” to prevent buses from coming into the Big Apple carrying immigrants and is legally obligated to shelter them. Adams’ office also slammed the federal government for not helping more to deal with the crisis.
