(TotalConservative.com) – Scorching temperatures and the volume of migrants are leading to deadly consequences and numerous rescues along the southern border.
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens shared several photos from rescues performed on August 3rd. His photographs displayed rough terrain while his caption indicated that the rescues themselves were dangerous feats accomplished by trained professionals.
Owens blamed “rough terrain & scorching temps” for injuries and medical emergencies requiring rescue and evacuation. He mentioned that the USBP has more than 1300 EMTs who have been trained for this kind of work. They have a special elite squad named Border Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) that specializes in it.
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Juan G. Bernal posted photographs and a caption that showed BORSTAR agents rescuing two migrants who collapsed due to extreme heat. Two additional migrants suffered head injuries when they were shoved off a moving train. Bernal warned that these kinds of incidents are examples of the risks migrants take when attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. Another migrant was carried out on the back of one of their agents after being stranded in Charity Canyon in New Mexico, according to another Border Patrol Chief, Anthony “Scott” Good.
Tucson Sector Chief John Modlin posted that they had completed 43 rescues in the week ending on Friday, August 4th. One involved rescuing a migrant suffering heat-related seizures outside of Sells, Arizona on July 27th.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimates that their agents have rescued 25,735 migrants from October 1st, 2022 to June 30th, 2023. Their data showed 22,075 for the entirety of FY2022 and just 12,933 in FY21. In FY2020 agents rescued only 5,071 migrants, that happened to be the last time Donald Trump was in office. The data shows that the need for rescues along the southern border has increased by over 400% since Joe Biden’s administration took office.
Department of Homeland Security Chief Alejandro Mayorkas is ostensibly in charge of the border and reports directly to President Biden. There have been multiple calls for his impeachment due to his failure to secure the border.
