Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Il) was so enraged by the Trump administration’s decision to end DACA on Tuesday that he decided to hurl extraordinarily personal insults at the president’s chief of staff. Gutierrez, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, issued a statement shortly after the announcement was made to end the program. In it, he not only assailed the administration in general, but also John Kelly.
“General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear,” said Gutierrez. “He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists and those enabling the President’s actions by ‘just following orders.'”
Nice. Was that a Nazi reference? That’s great. It’s good to see we’re finally lowering the temperature on our national political discourse, like Democrats have been begging us to do for years.
“General Kelly, when he was the head of Homeland Security, lied straight to the faces of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about preventing the mass deportation of DREAMers,” Guteirrez claimed. “Now as Chief of Staff, this former general is executing the plan to take away their lifeline and taking steps to criminalize young people who live and work here legally.”
First of all, John Kelly is not the President of the United States. Did this fool really think Kelly was going to stake his career over a bunch of illegal immigrants? Come on. Second, no one is going to “criminalize” anyone. How could they? They are ALREADY here illegally! Trump is not changing the law; he is merely letting a program to violate congressional authority lapse into oblivion. That is his prerogative, his right, and, in our humble opinion, his DUTY as a sworn officer of the Constitution.
Of course, Gutierrez wasn’t the only Hispanic Democrat going off the deep end as a result of the DACA decision. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey went as far as to accuse the president of racism in his choice to end the program.
“President Trump promised to do right by our nation’s DREAMers, but with this decision he has chosen once again to cloak his presidency with a white nationalist flag instead of the diverse fabric of our multicultural American society,” Menendez said in a statement.
That’s just despicable. The kind of tripe that would be expected from a far-left online rag like Vox – not from an elected senator. It’s a shame to see our discourse has devolved to this extreme, but we guess we’re not too surprised. When it comes to illegal immigrants, Democrats get their passions up.
It’s a shame they never seem this interested in protecting American citizens.
