Eminem Sends Cease and Desist to Ramaswamy

(TotalConservative.com) – Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was sent a cease and desist letter from rapper Eminem, revoking any license with Ramaswamy’s campaign to use the rapper’s music.

It all started with an incident in early August at the Iowa State Fair when Ramaswamy rapped along to Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself” from the biographical film about his life called 8 Mile. Footage of the awkward moment on stage went viral online.

The music licenser BMI was contacted by Eminem who asked that the license obtained by the Ramaswamy campaign to use the rapper’s music be revoked. Ramaswamy’s lawyer was informed by BMI that the rapper objected to the presidential candidate’s use of his music for his campaign and that he requested his works be removed from the agreement.

The cease-and-desist letter states that it “serves as notice” to Ramaswamy and his campaign that “effective immediately,” the rapper’s works are “excluded from the Agreement.” If the Vivek 2024 campaign performs any of Eminem’s music again, it will be considered a breach of the BMI Agreement.

Ramaswamy used to perform as a rapper in his college days, going by the stage name “Da Vek.” The Eminem song was one he performed frequently in his youth. He also performed it recently at a karaoke bar during a vacation in Canada.

The Republican nomination contender spoke about being a fan of Eminem before and that he relates to his life story. Ramaswamy said that although he didn’t grow up in the same circumstances, but relates to feeling like an underdog and others “having low expectations” of him.

Ramaswamy is doing surprisingly well with his campaign. Many polls place him in third place, coming up just behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Despite his performance, he and the other GOP candidates remain way behind former President Donald Trump, whom Ramaswamy is a fan of and even promised to pardon if elected.
