(TotalConservative.com) – A family from Germany who have lived in the United States for 15 years are now facing deportation and pleading with President Joe Biden to allow them to stay.
Fifteen years ago, Hannelore and Uwe Romeike came to the US from Germany and settled in Tennessee. The reason they left their home country is a unique one: they wanted to homeschool their children. In Germany, homeschooling is illegal, and the Romeike argue they were escaping a form of persecution for their beliefs.
In 2008, the Romeike family ran away from their home country after Germany fined the parents for choosing to homeschool their children. Their asylum claim was turned down five years later because authorities said the case did not demonstrate persecution. The Department of Justice (DOJ) wrote at the time that Germany promotes “an open, pluralistic society” that teaches “tolerance” to all children to help “develop the ability to interact as a fully functioning citizen” in the country.
The family was allowed to stay indefinitely, but now they are being asked to leave. The Romeike family said they were not told anything and “don’t really know why” they are suddenly being deported.
Uwe and Hannelore claim they were persecuted for believing in the right to homeschool their children. The family’s attorney, Kevin Boden, said he believes they “did have a well-founded fear of persecution” and that the administration of former President Barrack Obama “appealed that to the Board of Immigration Appeals.” Boden says the appeal court and Sixth Circuit were in agreement, but then “the Supreme Court denied it” even though he believes the Romeike family’s case “is, in fact, an asylum case.”
Boden said the family can stay in the country, which they’ve done for the past 15 years, if the Biden administration allows them to. He said they’re “asking them to simply do just that.”
As the Romeike family pleads with the president to let them stay, despite no criminal records and years of being a part of their local community, illegal immigrants continue to flood over the southern border and the Biden administration makes little to no effort to find and eject them. In fact, unlike the Romeike family, who are self supporting, many people are housing and feeding illegal immigrants on the taxpayer’s dime.
