(TotalConservative.com) – A Louisiana federal judge is ordering the administration of President Joe Biden to stop communication with all social media companies about what content is allowed on their platforms.
The court order raises questions about free speech and the First Amendment and whether or not the government should have a hand in how social media platforms conduct themselves or curate their content posted by users. Such platforms took great liberty to fight against what they labeled as “misinformation” during the pandemic three years ago and the 2020 presidential election. However, Democrats generally feel not enough was done to combat “hate speech” and the narratives they consider dangerous.
The ruling in Louisiana represents a victory for the GOP, who have consistently accused major platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter of specifically and disproportionately targeting users and content that leans more conservative with help from the federal government.
What was once generally considered a conspiracy theory was confirmed at the end of 2022 when Elon Musk took over Twitter and began releasing a cache of internal documents he named “The Twitter Files.”
The series, which was released on Twitter exclusively through multiple journalists Musk entrusted with the information, revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other three-letter agencies directly collaborated with Twitter to censor and ban users who shared the breaking New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop, among other things.
The ruling, handed down by Judge Terry A, Doughty, determined that specific government organizations, such as the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), cannot communicate with social media companies with any intention to urge, encourage, pressure, or induce the companies “in any manner” to remove, delete, suppress, or reduce “content containing protected free speech.”
Although the government cannot flag specific posts to be taken down, it can still notify social media companies about certain posts relating to crimes, threats to national security, or attempts by foreign powers to influence or interfere with elections.
