According to former State Department Inspector General Howard Krongard, Hillary Clinton is not quite telling the truth about her use of private email. Krongard, who worked under George W. Bush from 2005 to 2008, said that Hillary’s claim that her predecessors had essentially done the same thing as she did was false.
“Just like previous secretaries of state, I used a personal email,” Hillary said in response to a withering audit of the State Department that was released publicly last week. “Many people did. It was not at all unprecedented.”
Krongard, in a new interview with Fox News, said that was misleading. “Certainly to my knowledge at least, Secretary [Condoleezza] Rice did not have a personal server,” he said. “I certainly never either sent an email to one or received an email from one.”
He said that if he’d been asked to consent to such an arrangement, he would have “declined to do so on security grounds.”
While some reports have surfaced showing that Colin Powell used personal email while serving as secretary, the new audit shows some significant differences between his and Hillary’s use. Powell only used personal email to contact people outside the State Department system, and he did so with the full security cooperation of the agency.
Hillary, on the other hand, used the same email/server for both private and professional correspondence and did not seek permission to do so. Since there really was no inspector general in place when she was secretary, she was able to shut down any attempt to get her back on the official system.
“They are the people who enforce the rules,” said Krongard. “And there was no one enforcing the rules during that time.”
This email scandal has not only revealed some harsh truths about Hillary Clinton’s approach to national security, it has solidified her reputation as a scheming liar. In a year where one of the most common phrases used to describe Donald Trump is “he tells it like it is,” Hillary is an almost perfect embodiment of the typical politician. Someone who answers everything in very careful terms that don’t quite correlate to the questions. Someone who is always willing to tell the truth…as long as the truth is politically expedient at the time.
Hillary’s no match for her husband in the charisma department, but she’s every bit his equal when it comes to deception.
