(TotalConservative.com) – A former attorney general of Virginia and former White House official under the Trump administration is now abandoning the former president and launching a PAC to encourage GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president in 2024.
Ken Cuccinelli, who used to hold a top position at the Department of Homeland Security under the Trump administration, and defended the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, is now throwing his support to DeSantis, Trump’s number one rival for the GOP nomination.
Cuccinelli announced on Thursday that he would be launching the Never Back Down PAC, a political action committee to support DeSantis, rather than supporting a third bid for the White House by Trump.
Cuccinelli said in a statement that he’s “been speaking to many grassroots conservative activists” across the nation “who are very enthusiastic” about DeSantis running in 2024. “The energy is there,” he said, and that “grassroots conservatives see [DeSantis] as a leader and a fighter with a winning conservative record” capable of a Republican victory in 2024.
It’s not a secret DeSantis poses the biggest threat to Trump winning the nomination, and even DeSantis himself seems to be indicating more and more that he’s heading toward a White House bid. His recent book is all about applying the policies that have been so effective in Florida to the rest of the nation. The book is now at the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
Earlier this week, DeSantis said “you ain’t seen nothing yet” to his audience of lawmakers during his State of the State address on Tuesday.
According to Cuccinelli, “America’s future is Ron DeSantis,” and he openly called on the governor to run for president. Never Back Down Inc. has now launched a website to collect donations, all of which they state will be donated to the DeSantis campaign committee if he launches a bid for the White House.
Despite all of this, Trump still retains large popularity among Republicans and continues to drag DeSantis online and in speeches.
