Thanks to a new tracking analysis from a company called Property Claim Services (PCS), we now know that the Black Lives Matter riots and looting over the summer will ultimately cost the American insurance industry as much as $2 billion in payouts – more than any other violent demonstrations in this country’s history.

“The protests that took place in 140 U.S. cities this spring were mostly peaceful, but the arson, vandalism and looting that did occur will result in at least $1 billion to $2 billion of paid insurance claims — eclipsing the record set in Los Angeles in 1992 after the acquittal of the police officers who brutalized Rodney King,” reported Axios.

Wow, great job, activists! Great job, leaders of Black Lives Matter! Now, we’re sure you don’t actually care that your baseless, senseless riots cost those pesky insurance companies all that money, because hey, they’re just insurance companies, right? And everyone knows that insurance companies were the very ones who underwrote the slave trade in the 1700s, so we’ll just consider it a weird sort of reparations!

Axios, of course, is quick to remind us that these were “mostly peaceful” protests, so don’t go getting the wrong idea, average American! Don’t go blaming racial protests for your woes, guy who lost his business to rioters! You knew what you were getting into when you decided to do business in the racist free market.

Oh, Axios also has this fun tidbit for us to chew on: “Yes, but: These losses are small compared with those stemming from natural disasters like hurricanes and the wildfires that are consuming the U.S. West.”

Oh, well see, there’s nothing to worry about here! Hurricanes and wildfires caused way more damage than rioters in Minneapolis and Seattle! And as long as there’s something out there worse than out-of-control, leftist rioting, we can always paper over the sins of those sincere, wise protesters who, after all, just want police to stop shooting innocent, unarmed, upstanding black men.

And gee, if we defunded every police department in the country, we could surely pay off these damages and THEN some. We might even have some money left over to make sure “Black Lives Matter” gets tattooed on the forehead of every living American citizen!

Exciting times, folks. Exciting times.
