Half Moon Bay Shooter Expected to Receive 7 Counts of Murder and 1 Count of Attempted Murder

(TotalConservative.com) – A prosecutor on January 25th stated that Chunli Zhao, a 66-year-old farmworker accused of killing seven at two mushroom farms in California, will be charged with seven counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Zhao also faces an enhanced sentence for each count for using a firearm in the attack, and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. If convicted, he may face life in prison without parole or the death penalty (since California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a moratorium on executing prisoners in 2019).

According to San Mateo County sheriff’s officials, Zhao is believed to have acted alone when he arrived at a farm where he was employed, killed four people, and injured another, after which he drove to a second nearby farm where he used to work and killed three more people. The victims’ names have not yet been released.

Zhao’s charges will be filed before he makes his first appearance in court. The sheriff’s office also said there are no apparent motives for the attack, although they attributed it to possible “workplace violence.”

This incident happened just days after another mass shooting in Monterey Park during the Lunar New Year celebrations, which left eleven people dead. The shooter then took his own life in his vehicle where authorities found him.

So far, there have been five shootings in California, Iowa, and Washington within eight days of one another, with casualties totaling 24. There was also an incident in Virginia where a 6-year-old brought a gun to school and shot their teacher, who survived. It was later revealed the administration was tipped off the student may have had the weapon, but when a backpack search was conducted they did not find it.

In response to these events, Governor Newsom is calling for more gun control, and even told CBS in a recent interview that he believes the Second Amendment is becoming a “suicide pact.”
