Where else but the San Francisco Unified School District would you find a story this idiotic? Well, with the way things are going on the “woke” left, there are probably lots of places where students would claim to be offended by the father of our own country, but we still weren’t surprised to see this was happening in Northern California. Any district that can send Nancy Pelosi to Congress over and over again has some screws loose somewhere.

In any event, the school district’s “Reflection and Action Working Group” has decided that they do not appreciate the mural of George Washington that hangs in the halls of George Washington High School. They have determined that it is offensive to Native Americans and African-Americans alike, and they have recommended that the district take the artwork down. It “traumatizes students and community members,” they claim. They do not cite therapy records or medical statistics showing this to be the case. Like most left-wing claims, you’re just supposed to assume they’re telling the truth.

“SFUSD convened a ‘Reflection and Action Working Group’ that was comprised of members of the local Native American community, students, school representatives, district representatives, local artists and historians,” a spokeswoman for the district told the watchdog website The College Fix. “At its conclusion the group voted and the majority recommended that the ‘Life of Washington’ mural be archived and removed because the mural does not represent SFUSD values.”

The group determined that two of the mural’s panels were too disturbing for students to see on their way to class. In one of them, Washington is gesturing towards a group of pioneers, colored in gray, who are walking by the dead body of a Native American. In another, Washington is depicted near slaves performing manual labor. George Washington High School students are presumably thrown into fits of trauma every time they remember that there were dead Indians and slaves back when this country was formed.

“We come to these recommendations due to the continued historical and current trauma of Native Americans and African Americans with these depictions in the mural that glorifies slavery, genocide, colonization, manifest destiny, white supremacy, oppression, etc,” the group wrote. “This mural doesn’t represent SFUSD values of social justice, diversity, united, student-centered.”

That’s debatable. Showing a dead Native American does not necessarily connote celebrating a dead Native American. Showing slaves does not endorse the institution of slavery.

The whole thing is so silly. These kids hear and see half a dozen things more “traumatizing” than this mural on the bus ride to school every morning. To apply the social justice standards of 2019 to men from 1776 is beyond ridiculous. It is insane. Worse, it is pointless.

Surely the San Francisco Unified School District has better things to worry about.
