Like most gun-grabbing liberals, Hillary Clinton has some funny ideas about what the founding fathers actually meant when they wrote the Second Amendment. Unlike most gun-grabbing liberals, this one could soon be in a position to turn her twisted opinions into law. As one of only two possible individuals who will be our next president, it is incumbent on all gun owners to take what she says very seriously. She is making gun control a central theme of her candidacy, and the contrast between her and Donald Trump on this issue couldn’t be more obvious.
In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos last Sunday, Hillary was asked if “an individual’s right to bear arms is a constitutional right.”
She dodged that question, instead saying:
“If it is a constitutional right, then it, like every other constitutional right, is subject to reasonable regulation. And what people have done with that [2008 Supreme Court] decision is to take it as far as they possibly can and reject what has been our history from the very beginning of the republic, where some of the earliest laws that were passed were about firearms.”
Hillary didn’t get into the specifics of those early gun control laws, which were created almost exclusively for the purpose of keeping guns out of the hands of black Americans.
“So I think it’s important to recognize that reasonable people can say, as I do, responsible gun owners have a right — I have no objection to that,” she continued. “But the rest of the American public has a right to require certain kinds of regularity, responsible actions to protect everyone else.”
So tricky, these Democrats. They are so effortlessly deceptive that you almost have to admire their complete lack of morality. Left-wing politicians obviously don’t have the market cornered on lying, but there’s a difference between a lying Republican and a lying Democrat. A lying Republican is an individual trying to win an election by making promises they can’t keep. A lying Democrat is a tautology – the only way any of them can win is by hiding their true intentions.
With few exceptions, Americans agree that rights – including the Second Amendment – are not without restrictions. You don’t see anyone out there arguing otherwise. It’s a strawman. Democrats want people to believe that Republicans would hand every kindergartner an AR-15 on the first day of school. It’s ludicrous. But it’s the only way they can pretend that our current gun laws are the product of the EVIL NRA.
Would President Hillary Clinton send us on a path to mass disarmament? Maybe. Maybe not. But if she can’t bring herself to say that the Second Amendment codifies the individual right to bear arms, then she can’t be trusted to protect that right.
