(TotalConservative.com) – A new analysis found that recent population increases in the US are not from people having more babies, but from increased immigration due to the Biden administration and its border policies.
The foreign-born population in the US has risen to levels never seen before under the administration of President Joe Biden, according to researchers Karen Zeigler and Steven Camarota from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). The CIS analysis was published on Monday, May 13, and shows that from when Biden took office at the end of January 2021 to March of this year, approximately 6.6 million immigrants have entered the US.
The sudden population spike is equivalent to almost two years of average births from the US population and represents a figure larger than the populations of 33 of the 50 states. It’s the highest surge in population due to immigration in the nation’s history, and the total foreign-born population is higher than it’s ever been at 51.6 million overall. This means that about 3 out of 19 people inhabiting the US were born in another country.
If the current rate of trajectory continues, the total number of foreign-born US residents will surpass 82 million by the year 2040, meaning 1 out of 4 people in the nation will not have been born there.
According to Zeigler and Camarota, illegal immigration accounts for nearly 60% of the increase in foreign-born residents, while 40% is because of legal immigration, which is also historically high. Roughly a million people are admitted into the US annually on green cards, and about 70% of those legal immigrants come through the process of “chain migration,” which is when new citizens may sponsor their relatives to receive green cards.
The CIS published an analysis last year in March that showed similar results as the most recent one: that almost all of the recent population growth in the US has been due to legal and illegal immigration.
