The Intercept is one of those sites that combines some interesting instances of original reporting/criticism of the mainstream media with some of the most insane takes on the news of the day you’ll read anywhere on the internet. Generally coming from a far-left, Noam Chomsky-esque view of the world, the Intercept didn’t necessarily buy into the Russia witch hunt the way most American news organizations did, but then again, they defend people like Edward Snowden up one side and down the other.

But we’re not sure we’ve read anything as insane as their take on Trump’s criticism of Rep. Adam Schiff.

After introducing us to the neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer and their “prime directive,” which is apparently “always blame the Jews for everything,” the Intercept tells us that Trump and his supporters are doing just that:

Take Trump’s tweet on September 28:

Can you imagine if these Do Nothing Democrat Savages, people like Nadler, Schiff, AOC Plus 3, and many more, had a Republican Party who would have done to Obama what the Do Nothings are doing to me. Oh well, maybe next time!

    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 28, 2019

To be clear: More than 200 House Democrats have signed onto an impeachment inquiry and yet the president chose to target only three of them by name, two of whom are Jewish: Adam Schiff and Jerrold Nadler, chairs of the House Intelligence and Judiciary committees. The third target was — surprise! — a woman of color, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Shamefully, he attacked all of them as “savages.”

How is such rhetoric not racist?

Sorry. We guess maybe we don’t spend enough time with our Official Almanac of American Jews, but we didn’t even know Schiff and Nadler WERE Jews until this article. Is Trump aware? Are the majority of his supporters? Does anyone actually give a damn, other than A) people who spend their time on websites like The Daily Stormer or B) people who are looking for new and inventive ways to smear President Trump as the second coming of Adolf Hitler?

The Intercept doesn’t stop there; they claim that Schiff’s “shifty” nickname is further evidence of the anti-Semitism that Trump brings to the table. Um, guys, we’re gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s because his name is “Schiff.” Don’t you think, maybe, that makes a little more sense than this: “The stereotype of Jews as ‘shifty,’ the suggestion that they are sneaky and manipulative, has a long and ignominious history. Trump — who ‘often plays on well-worn caricatures about cleverness, deviousness, and physical weakness’ when discussing Jews, to quote Peter Beinart — knows what he is doing when he gives Schiff this particular nickname; it is no accident or coincidence.”

Uh-huh.

For good measure, the site brings the president’s son into the mix, quoting from a tweet in which Don Jr. lambastes Schiff as “someone who has been hand-picked and supported by George Soros.”

To Jewish leftists, any mention of Soros in a negative light is synonymous with anti-Semitism. Even if, as is the case here, it’s nothing but a plain fact. Soros’ MoveOn.org contributed mightily to Schiff’s congressional campaign. Whatever you think of Soros, you cannot deny his money was instrumental in sending Schiff to Washington.

Oh, we can’t wrap this up without noting the little call-to-donate thingy that the Intercept puts at the end of all their articles. In it, they tell readers to ask themselves if they can imagine seeing a story like this written by any other news organization. And for this one, we have to concede: No, no we can’t. But we’re not sure that’s a compliment.
