Judge Chutkan Becomes Victim of Swatting

(TotalConservative.com) – Tanya Chutkan, the judge presiding over the federal case against former President Donald Trump for alleged election interference, was reportedly targeted by a swatting call.

On Sunday night, Jan. 7, US District Judge Chutkan was targeted in a swatting attempt, which is when a malicious party tries to contact law enforcement and provoke them to raid a target’s home by fabricating a false threat. The intention behind such actions is either to trick law enforcement into disrupting the target’s life by raiding their homes or to get the target killed in an altercation with police.

According to Anna Bower, a Lawfare correspondent, fire services and police responded to a report of an active shooter at one of Chutkan’s residences in D.C. Bower said that responding officers “found nothing” at the scene. In an audio clip from the response released on social media, it’s implied that the person who called in the report said multiple victims were in the home, confirmed through property records to belong to Chutkan. The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Fire Department both responded to the call.

Chutkan isn’t the only high-profile government official to be targeted by a swatting attempt, nor is it only happening to Democrats. Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green has been targeted by swatting before, as well as Sen. Rick Scott of Florida.

Last year, a woman from Texas was apprehended and charged after allegedly sending a threatening message to Chutkan in August. The woman, Abigail Jo Shry, threatened that “if Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024,” she and others “are coming to kill” Chutkan. According to court documents, she also threatened to kill Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas. She admitted to investigators that she made the call and left the threatening message.

Chutkan, who is presiding over the case charging Trump with attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, hit the former president with a gag order in an attempt to bar him from making public remarks about prosecutors, an order which Trump’s team appealed. He’s consistently denied all wrongdoing and has also publicly criticized Chutkan and others on the case, which is set to start in March.
