(TotalConservative.com) – A California man was hit with a sentence of 135 years behind bars after he was found guilty of performing lewd acts on minors and threatening children younger than six.
Following a lengthy trial and after the jury considered “extensive testimony and evidence” presented to them by the offices of the District Attorney and Placer County Sheriff, they found 28-year-old Adam Bendell guilty of his charges in March. He was sentenced on Monday, May 20, in Placer County and will now face 135 years in prison.
Bendell was convicted of committing lewd acts on three minors. According to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, the Auburn resident was accused of touching the children inappropriately while putting them to bed at night or during nap time. On March 5, he was found guilty and reportedly seemed more concerned about “his social image” than the kids harmed and showed a “lack of remorse.”
The district attorney added that the case related to an individual the prosecutors described as a “predatory individual” with “access to young children” through a romantic relationship. Bendell “exploited a position of trust” in order to touch the victims at times when he was alone with the children, and the abuse “escalated over time.” According to the investigation, he also threatened the children by convincing them they could “get in trouble” for talking about the abuse.
The abuse went on for a while before the children eventually said something to their families. After a report was filed, law enforcement interviewed the children and then arrested Bendell, who was charged with multiple felony counts of lewd acts against a minor enhanced by multiple victims.
Abuse statistics show that children are more likely to be abused by someone they know who is either a family member or close to the family in some way. Stepparents and romantic partners of a single parent are also found to be more likely to abuse children.
