(TotalConservative.com) – A California judge sentenced the first fentanyl dealer on a murder charge according to an announcement from the Placer County District Attorney’s office on Wednesday, October 11th. Nathaniel Cabacungan, 22, was sentenced to 15 years to life after fentanyl he sold to teenager Jewels Wolf resulted in her untimely death. He pleaded guilty back in July 2022 to murder and sale of fentanyl charges.
District Attorney Morgan Gire said that their community sent a basic message with the sentence: do not sell fentanyl here. She further suggested the “historic sentence” demonstrated a willingness to pursue fentanyl dealers.
She further emphasized a public awareness campaign entitled “1 Pill Can Kill Placer,” warning locals about the dangers of fentanyl. A picture of Jewels Wolf was used to promote the message and warn families about the risks. Gire said that they intend to honor the memory of the young woman by educating other kids in the community so that future tragedies like hers could be avoided.
California Attorney General Bob Bonta said that Wolf should have never died in the first place and that he hoped the sentence would bring some closure to the family while also sending a stark warning to fentanyl distributors.
According to Department of Justice (DOJ) statistics, fentanyl has caused or contributed to the deaths of 105,263 individuals between February 2022 and January 2023. DOJ data shows it’s the leading cause of death for adults 18 to 49.
Investigators in Kentucky busted 3 adults trafficking the drug, as well as methamphetamine. Harlan County officials recovered 470 grams of fentanyl and 650 grams of meth during the bust.
Fentanyl overdoses are occurring so frequently in South Texas that it’s negatively impacting the mental health of emergency medical and other first responders.
