White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany fired back at CNN’s Jake Tapper after the latter said he would not have her on his show because virtually everything out of her mouth was some version of a lie. McEnany said that Tapper’s attack was just a diversion from the real truth, which is that CNN has lost its way in the Era of Trump.
“This is a therapy session for a broken network, and @jaketapper is lazy enough to participate by lobbing baseless personal attacks, with ZERO evidence,” McEnany tweeted. “Jake’s real problem: I do not leak. I do not lie. But I DO call out the lies of the media (i.e. CNN Russia collusion hoax!)”
On CNN’s Reliable Sources program on Sunday, Tapper explained to host Brian Stelter that he won’t have people like McEnany and Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller on his show, because they are constantly lying.
“There are some people that are such, they’re just so mendacious I just wouldn’t put them on air,” Tapper said. “Kayleigh McEnany, I never booked her. Jason Miller from the Trump campaign, I would never book him. I mean, these are just people who just, they just tell lies the way that most people breathe. There is no value in that.”
Tapper was prompted to accuse McEnany of constant lying by Stelter, who questioned why the CNN host was willing to frequently interview White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway.
“I don’t view Kellyanne Conway the same way. She was the senior adviser to the president. She was more of a filibusterer and a subject changer, I thought, than a liar. And I think it’s different, I really do, and there is a risk in lumping everybody together. There is a big difference between somebody like Kayleigh McEnany who just, like, this is what she does, she tells lies all the time. She can’t acknowledge reality, so I’m just not going to put someone like that on air,” Tapper explained.
Yes, but why even bother with Kellyanne? Or anyone, for that matter, who takes issue with CNN’s “reality,” which is about as far from the real meaning of that word as a thing can get? Why not just put leftists on the air for a big ol’ fancy echo chamber of nonsense, since that’s clearly what CNN’s viewers want out of a news channel these days?
This network still wants to pretend, somehow, that they are on firmer journalistic ground than MSNBC or any other left-wing trash outlet. We’re not entirely sure who they think they’re fooling with that charade, but hey, whatever helps them sleep at night.
