Apparently it is no longer good enough or politically correct enough for mainstream media reporters to simply support the NFL players who are kneeling for the national anthem. Now you get in trouble for even reporting that they ARE protesting the national anthem. You only think that, apparently, if you’re some kind of right-wing, racist zealot who supports the president. Just like illegal immigration isn’t illegal and it’s a sin of unimaginable offense to mention the birth name of a transgender person, we’re apparently to understand that the players – who kneel for the national anthem – are not protesting the national anthem.

The trouble started when CBS News, in a story that more or less glorified Texas senatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke for telling people there was “nothing more American” than kneeling for the anthem, accidentally told their readers on Twitter that players were “protesting the national anthem.” After a flurry of outrage from the perpetually outraged, they changed the headline to “Beto O’Rourke says ‘nothing more American’ than to stand up or take a knee for your rights,” which doesn’t really roll off the tongue.

They also added a note to the article to explain to readers their policy of giving in to the left.

“The headline of this story has been changed to more wholly reflect O’Rourke’s remarks and correct a previous headline that stated O’Rourke said there was ‘nothing more American’ than NFL players protesting the national anthem,” read the Editor’s Note. “Players who kneel during the national anthem are protesting police brutality and racial inequality. The original tweet to this story, which included the incorrect headline, has been deleted.”

As Grabien’s Tom Elliott pointed out on Twitter, though: “Kaepernick was pretty explicit that he was protesting America, not police: ‘I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.’”

Yep.

Frankly, even if that quote were not out there, what else could you take away from the fact that players are kneeling for the national anthem than that they are protesting the national anthem? If that’s NOT what they’re doing, then this whole protest is even dumber than we thought. Would it surprise us that dozens of dumb NFL players are too stupid to realize that kneeling for the anthem will be taken as a protest of America? No, not at all. But then why are we supposed to give these idiots any attention or respect at all?
