(TotalConservative.com) – Following protests in Atlanta at the construction site of the Atlanta Police Safety Training Center which was also targeted by vandals in what police called “a coordinated attack,” Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will be introducing a resolution to declare Antifa a terrorist group.
The congresswoman posted a tweet on Sunday night after news broke of the clashes in Atlanta at the disputed construction site. She called Antifa domestic terrorists and announced that she will be introducing a resolution “to officially declare them a terrorist organization on Tuesday.” GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado proposed a similar resolution back in 2021 but received little support from a Democrat-controlled House.
The training facility, declared “Cop City” by environmental and anti-police activists, was targeted by a group of vandals who police said used peaceful protests “as cover” in order to launch “a coordinated attack” on the construction site, setting fires, and hurling Molotov cocktails and bricks at cops.
The $90 million training facility located in DeKalb County and approved for construction in 2021 will include classrooms, areas for role-play training for real-life scenarios, and an amphitheater.
Ever since the announcement, it has been a center of a confrontation with activists who have protested it multiple times and set up an encampment outside the site in June 2021.
In January of this year, state troopers moved in to shut down the encampment, resulting in a shootout between one activist and the troopers. One state trooper was injured when environmental activist Manuel Esteban Paez Terán opened fire first and then he was fatally shot in return. The encampment was then cleared out and seven arrests were made. After his death, activists called for a “night of rage” and protests erupted on Atlanta streets followed by multiple arrests.
In a separate tweet, Greene claimed that Antifa was responsible for the attack on the facility and that the attack “was planned for weeks and announced on social media.” She called the group “self-proclaimed communists” who “consistently organize to attack our government.” Greene wrote that they should “be taken seriously and not tolerated anymore.”
