Mike Pence Disagrees with DeSantis on Ukraine War Being a “Territorial Dispute”

(TotalConservative.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently shared his position on the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for over a year now following Russia’s invasion, and is receiving backlash for describing it as a “territorial dispute.” One of the critics to emerge is former Vice President Mike Pence, who disagrees with DeSantis’ take.

Tucker Carlson recently issued a questionnaire on foreign policy to running GOP candidates and prospective candidates for the 2024 election. In response to the questionnaire, DeSantis said the U.S. should be prioritizing secure borders, military readiness, energy security and independence, and keeping China in check, rather than “becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia.”

Carlson shared the full response on his Twitter page. DeSantis had been questioned about his opinion of the conflict before, but this was the first time he gave a more direct answer about what he thought of it, which aligns with former President Donald Trump’s views.

The Florida governor warned that providing weapons should “be off the table” and could lead to drawing the U.S. into the conflict and a “hot war” between the U.S. and Russia, “the world’s two largest nuclear powers.”

During an interview on “New Hampshire Today” on Wednesday, Pence responded to radio host Chris Ryan’s question regarding DeSantis’ comments by saying that the war “is not a territorial dispute” but “the result of an unprovoked war of aggression by Russia” who are “attempting to re-draw international lines by force.”

DeSantis and his rival (as well as Pence’s former boss) Trump, both stand in opposition to many in the GOP who openly support Ukraine in the conflict, and the issue will clearly become a point of contention during the 2024 election cycle.

Neither DeSantis nor Pence has yet to announce their bid for the White House, but both are expected to run. Pence said he will make his decision by the spring, and that he “strongly supports continuing to provide Ukrainian military the resources necessary” to repel Russia’s invasion.
