(TotalConservative.com) – A half dozen dead women all found within a few months of one another are sparking fear that a serial killer may be operating in the Portland metropolitan area in Oregon. The city is the perfect hunting ground for a psychopathic predator. He would have plenty of potential victims to choose from with sprawling homeless camps, drug-addled or mentally ill residents, and a transient population, including people from overseas or illegal immigrants.
Police were quick to downplay concerns about a serial killer, but one professor from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired officer of the NYPD Joseph Giacolone suggested that even if no foul play is involved, the sheer volume of missing persons and deaths should be cause for alarm.
The state has a current total of 401 missing persons cases at the time of writing. Roughly half of those are women. Only 46 women were missing for the entirety of 2022, the number for this year is already well above that.
Giacolone added that tent camps and drug use within the city can make death much more likely. He clarified that there doesn’t have to be something nefarious going on, but that if there is it will be much more difficult to detect given these variables. He also anticipates more bodies will be found.
Ashley Real’s body was the latest to be discovered, the 22-year-old woman was found dead on May 7th. Thirty-one-year-old Bridget Webster’s body was retrieved on April 30th and two bodies, that of 24-year-old Charity Perry and an unidentified woman were both found on April 26th. Thirty-two-year-old Joanna Speaks and 22-year-old Kristin Smith were found dead on April 8th and February 19th, respectively.
Only Speaks was declared a homicide due to blunt force trauma injuries being the cause of her death. The police are continuing to look for patterns in the deaths, but given the complicating factors of drug use and mental health issues, it would be easier for a serial to get away with murder in the Portland area versus other parts of the country.
